Our History

Clint graduated from Milford, in 2008 with an associate’s degree in automotive mechanics.  He had always had a love for it and worked on vehicles and power units throughout high school.  Clint started MC Automotive in the fall of 2011.  He had a 1 bay shed with a dirt floor, no heat, no lights, and one electrical outlet.  He did all of the work on the ground with hardly any equipment to help with the heavy lifting.  He would work during the middle of the night, start early morning, or generally anytime he couldn’t sleep.

In 2016 we were able to purchase where we lived and construct a new shop. One of his first major purchases for the shop was a hoist that could lift anything from cars to semis. With the bigger shop and better equipment came bigger jobs consisting of engine replacements, transmission replacements, and power unit rebuilds.

In the summer of 2017, we were excited to hire Lathan Wilke, another Ravenna native. He was still in college at Hastings Central Community College finishing up a degree in diesel mechanics. We had him part-time until graduation in 2018 and then he was able to go full-time. We are still fortunate to have him here. With the addition of Lathan, Clint was able to expand and become able to do more service calls for the farmers in regards to power units without the daily shop work suffering.

Fast forward to now, we have added Caleb Gross to the full-time employee list and haven’t looked back since. He also is a Ravenna native and has been a great addition to the shop. While the transition from two to three mechanics has been a learning curve on scheduling for Clint, he has also made it easier on Lathan when Clint is out in the fields all summer long.

Clint and his wife, Lacey, have worked together in the shop since 2016. They have 4 children, Michael, Leddy, Suzzie, and Ella. Customers will regularly see one or all of the kids running around. The kids are often playing out in the dirt, the play set, or just tearing around the shop “helping” the guys sweep or wash the floor.

Clint has become a dealer of new power units from two different vendors and tries to keep them on hand for his customers. He can set the motors and perform maintenance on them throughout the watering season. He comes from a long line of farmers and understands how important it is to keep the crops growing.

We remember daily our small beginnings and are thankful for them. It keeps us grounded and full of gratitude for what we’ve built from the ground up. When something goes out our door, it has our name on it, and that in itself is a heck of a warranty. We strive to make things right with our customers because we are all human, and we treat our customers the way we want to be treated by our vendors.
